Validation
I will always be grateful for Wm Paul Young’s book, The Shack, which brought the beginning of the possibility that an intimate relationship with God is not only possible, but for which I was created. It was later as I heard his own story that there are common human experiences of healing and “process”. Though I want to make clear that I did NOT live the dark depths of his long-term physical and sexual abuse, I could, in some ways, understand the psychological, unconscious need to live with a veneer of “having to be perfect” (see Let Go mandala) so as to avoid dealing with a deep sense of shame, and I did “hear” that he, too, experienced a day when he began to have a sense of an individual selfhood. That one could have boundaries! It was affirming to hear that healing was indeed a process from the inside out and I couldn’t do the healing with my own efforts. What joy to begin to be comfortable in my own skin and realize that, yes, I am enough.
